What does a betting handicap mean?
I have encountered the term handicap in several sports betting articles, but I find it difficult to understand how it changes the conditions of a wager. Could someone explain the difference between a standard handicap and an Asian handicap, using a simple sporting example? I would also like to understand how adjusted scores influence settlement, what happens when the result falls exactly on the handicap line, and why reading the specific market rules is important before interpreting any potential payout.

A handicap changes the starting position of a team or player for betting purposes. For example, a team given a minus-one handicap in a football market generally needs to win by at least two goals for that selection to succeed under the usual European handicap rules. An opposing team with a plus-one handicap receives a virtual advantage. Asian handicaps can work differently because some lines allow half wins, half losses, or stake refunds. If the terminology sounds complicated, the sports betting article on Zimbabwe football betting might be a helpful place to start. Always check the exact market rules before placing a wager, since settlement conditions can vary between handicap types and bookmakers.
